The opening transnational meeting brought all six partners together in Iceland to launch the two-year project, align on its objectives and set the ground rules for working together.

LTT1 — Innovation, Sustainability and Interaction in Education

Students and teachers from Iceland, Türkiye and Denmark

The first mobility, hosted by Mariagerfjord Gymnasium, paired climate science with hands-on innovation. Students and teachers from Iceland, Türkiye and Denmark worked alongside the Danish climate NGO VedvarendeEnergi and visited real renewable-energy sites operated by Eurowind Energy A/S.

  • Climate science, global impacts and the green transition — sessions led by the NGO VedvarendeEnergi
  • Climate-negotiation role-play: pupils represented European countries and institutions to agree climate goals
  • Workshop on building digital learning tools and apps, run by Danish teachers and pupils
  • Site visit to Eurowind Energy A/S — wind, solar, hydrogen and battery parks
  • Cultural programme in Aarhus (Den Gamle By & AROS) and group work designing climate action plans

Digital Dialogue: Innovative Approaches in Climate Education

LTT2 — Climate Education for Sustainability and Innovation

18 international guests and 61 Turkish participants (79 total)

A five-day training week hosted by Bilnet Secondary School that applied climate education through digital storytelling, game-based learning, a circular-economy workshop and nature excursions. Delivery was expanded well beyond the plan: rescheduled from April to May, enlarged to a full game-development strand mentored by 13 engineering students from Balıkesir University, and integrating heritage sites at Kaz Dağları and Assos into the learning journey.

  • Day 1 — project launch, icebreakers, climate-change basics and a circular-economy seminar
  • Day 2 — story structure, script-writing, digital storytelling and animation development
  • Day 3 — Ecotopia game analysis, gamification workshop and game-building with Unreal Engine (educators joined a traditional Ebru marbling workshop)
  • Day 4 — excursion to Kaz Dağları (Ida Mountains) National Park and the ancient city of Assos
  • Day 5 — recycling & zero-waste workshop, green-school model, student game/animation showcase and certificate ceremony

Education for Green Generations: Climate Change and Sustainability in Schools

Local workshops run simultaneously by every partner in their own community, bringing the project’s climate and sustainability materials to students and teachers who did not travel.

LTT3 — Green Education Journey: Testing and Evolution of Innovative Materials

Students and teachers from Iceland, Türkiye, Denmark, Spain and Germany

The final mobility at Grunnskóli Húnaþings vestra combined international collaboration, game-based learning and Icelandic field trips to validate the classroom-tested materials. Students’ self-rated understanding of climate change rose from about 2 to about 4 on a 1–5 scale, and the week mapped onto UN Sustainable Development Goals 4, 12, 13 and 17.

  • Climate Summit role-play — students negotiated as different countries
  • Project-based learning: sustainability posters and a climate “Treasure Hunt”
  • Field trips to Blönduvirkjun hydro station, Kolugljúfur canyon, Reykir Regional Museum and the Vatnsnes seal coast
  • Local partnerships with the Icelandic Seal Centre and the Regional Museum at Reykir
  • Measured gains in climate knowledge, attitudes and intended behaviour change
